What is a Mentor?
A mentor is usually described as someone who "has been there". They are willing to give time to share their knowledge with another less experienced person to help them develop. They are also described as "trusted guides who understand the theory of personal development and have experience in translating it into practice (Daloz 1999)" In other words a mentor can adapt what they know and present it a manner that is acceptable to the other person. Mentoring is a special interaction between the mentor and the mentee (the person being mentored). The mentor usually receives training to learn how to adapt their conversation to help the mentee select the best and most significant knowledge the mentor can offer. A mentor can offer a life changing opportunity to a mentee. A mentor doesn't tell, teach and instruct. They use their knowledge and experience wisely and patiently.
