If you're a good listener, enjoy encouraging people and get pleasure out of seeing others achieve their dreams you have the beginnings of a good mentor. We recommend that mentors receive training to become more skilful at listening, gain understanding of how different people learn, when to pull back and let the mentee work it out for themselves and how to encourage.
